Day 34 Tuesday February 11

 cozy town in the van
Resting after birding

Mexican folk art collection at the world birding center

Quinta Mazatlan World Birding Center
S and R the architect of library in former Walmart
the current dachshund, Lily, not Frida Kahlo

Coffee in the van in the driveway, in to the house for the aforementioned egg and sausage casserole and out by car for a tour of the birding sites of McAllen such as Quinta Mazatlan and Llano Grande Park with a sumptuous lunch at Arturo's in nearby Wesleco; S had the frog legs while I went with the Enchiladas Banderas and the raspberry iced tea followed by a nice margarita which everyone else already had.
R showed us some of the hundreds of buildings he has designed and his childhood home and kindergarten site now a nature center.

A lot of people around here think the Wall is dumb.

Finally got over to the library that R helped create out of former Walmart. Largest single story library in the USA. Cool library. R cooking wild game for dinner - dove, quail and Red Drum.

Day 33 Monday February 10

Choke Canyon State Park
Sadie, precursor to Lily,  as Frida Kahlo

Bounded out of Choke with the coffee no breaky bound. Whistled south on the 4 lane to Alice and Falfurrias, Premount, etc. with a quantity lunch at Rebecca's Breakfast and More; I had the More which consisted of two crispy chicken fried steaks immersed in a white semisolid liquid and some other stuff like mashed potatoes and corn. Topped with Rebecca's salsa that she reluctantly gave me when asked though it was clear that she thought it was in bad taste.
Bought some quarts of salsa from a nice lady who had a couple of card tables set up on the road side in Falfurious one of which we gave to our hosts R and L in McAllen and it was quite tasty the next morning on L's egg and sausage casserole. The air on reaching McAllen had turned very warm (89ยบ) and humid. R and L have a dog, Lily, another dachshund. B curls lip on their first and every other encounter. Watched an inspiring documentary on the Rio Grand and the Wall. S took the bedroom and I chose the van with B for the spread out.
